Decorative Squirrel Cage Bulbs
Decorative squirrel cage bulbs closely mimic the early GE “Mazda Lamp” of over 100 years ago, which used a drawn tungsten filament threaded up and down the inside of the bulb. The pattern of the filament resembled a squirrel cage, hence the name. Even the shape of these bulbs is true to the original, including the blown glass dimple.
A decorative squirrel cage bulb is ideal for use inside a lantern-style luminaire, whether it’s a pendant or wall light. Any open fitting with a sufficient wattage rating and enough space can take one of these traditional bulbs. Note that they produce a subdued light, which is great for creating mood but unsuitable as a source of widespread, general lighting.
For homeowners and guests alike, the soothing effect of a decorative squirrel cage bulb is a memorable one.
